Montserrat, a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean’s Leeward Islands, is called the “Emerald Isle of the Caribbean” for its lush green hills and resemblance to Ireland’s coast.

Part of the Lesser Antilles volcanic arc, Montserrat sits about 1,200 miles southeast of Florida, 270 miles southeast of Puerto Rico, 27 miles southwest of Antigua, and 30 miles northwest of Guadeloupe.

Famous for the Soufrière Hills Volcano, which roared back to life in 1995, eventually burying villages and the capital, Plymouth, Montserrat remains a resilient island. While the volcano and its haunting ruins draw visitors, Montserrat today offers much more—vibrant culture, breathtaking landscapes, and the warmth of its people.
